Adding New Capacity to Your Drobo

To add or expand storage capacity, simply insert a hard drive into an empty data bay or replace a smaller capacity hard drive with a larger capacity drive. You may remove a hard drive at any time as long as the data bay indicators are not blinking green and yellow.

If a data bay indicator is solid yellow or red, the Drobo is informing you that you need to increase capacity by either adding a drive to an empty data bay or replacing a hard drive with one of larger capacity. (In some configurations, you might have to replace two drives to increase capacity.) Do NOT replace a drive if the indicators are blinking green and yellow.

Tip: For assistance with choosing which drive size is needed to reach a specific capacity, use our online Capacity Calculator that lets you drag and drop drives into a virtual Drobo device to determine your protected capacity with a specific mix of drives.

Warning: When adding hard drives to a Drobo storage device, ALL pre-existing data on those drives will be erased.
