Disconnecting Your Drobo from Your PC

Before disconnecting Drobo storage device from your PC or disconnecting the power from your Drobo device, you should always safely unmount the volumes stored on your Drobo.

Drobo 1st and 2nd Generation

On Drobo 1st and 2nd Generation this is done by clicking on the Standby button located in Advanced Controls -> Tools. The standby operation should take only a few seconds. Once Drobo is in Standby, all lights will turn off except for the power indicator, which will turn orange (Note: you can't see the power indicator with the front cover on Drobo). Only then, can you safely disconnect Drobo from your PC or disconnect the power from your Drobo.

Note: For Vista machines, you will need to click the Standby button and then physically disconnect Drobo from your PC before all lights on Drobo will go dark and the power indicator turns orange. Once you receive this indication, you may safely remove drives or power from your Drobo.

Drobo S, Drobo FS, DroboPro and DroboElite

On Drobo S, Drobo FS, DroboPro and DroboElite, this is done by clicking on the Shutdown button located in Advanced Controls -> Tools. You can also press the power toggle switch on the back of the device if you have manually unmounted all the volumes contained on the Drobo storage device. After the Shutdown process completes, all the indicator lights will turn off.

Warning: Failure to properly remove your Drobo storage device from your PC can cause loss of data.
