DroboElite Settings

These settings allow you to configure your DroboElite to best suit your storage needs. You can access the DroboElite Settings page by clicking on Settings button in Advanced Controls -> Tools in Drobo Dashboard. DroboElite's settings are split into three sections: General, iSCSI and Admin.

General

Item Description

Dual Disk Redundancy

Enabling this setting will protect your data against two simultaneous disk drive failures. When enabled your data is protected by an additional layer of redundancy, but you will have less protected capacity for storage. By default, this option is disabled. You need a minimum of three drives in order to use this capability.

Disk Drive Spin Down

This option allows you to set a designated amount of time of inactivity before DroboElite spins down your hard drives. Spinning down the drives helps save power and can prolong the life of your hard drives. However, it may take a few moments for the drives to become available after they have been spun down, which will cause a slight delay before you can access your data on DroboElite. By default, this option is set to Never.

iSCSI

Item Description

IP address

Assign a manual IP address for your iSCSI connection if you have a specific requirement for a static IP address on your network or are connecting multiple DroboElite storage arrays to your PC.

  • IP Address: The IP Address you would like to assign to the DroboElite's iSCSI port(s).

Make sure the address is outside the range of addresses a DHCP server assigns.
  • Subnet Mask: The Subnet Mask you would like to assign to the DroboElite's iSCSI port.

This should be the same as where Drobo Dashboard is running.

For more information on connecting multiple DroboElite devices to one computer, please see the iSCSI help article or the iSCSI article in our knowledge base at www.drobo.com/support/knowledgebase.

Frame size (MTU)

DroboElite supports jumbo frames with up to 9000 bytes of payload. With gigabit Ethernet cards, jumbo frames can provide a significant increase in the transfer rate. If you are going to use jumbo frames with your DroboElite and have Drobo Dashboard running on a PC, make sure to set the MTU rate the same as on the DroboElite. You can set this in the advanced section of Control Panel-> Network -> LAN Connection.

Note: If you set your DroboElite storage device for jumbo frames and find that you can no longer communicate with it, disconnect the Ethernet cable and connect to your PC using the USB administration port to modify your settings.

Admin

The Admin tab is used to set up a username and password for the DroboElite device. Use this feature if you do not want anyone else to be able to create, delete or format volumes.
